Apple Dessert Dumplings: Easy 5-Ingredient Baked Fall Treat

  • Author: Lara
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A cozy, rustic fall dessert made with refrigerated biscuit dough and Granny Smith apples, baked in a sweet cinnamon-sugar syrup. Ready in under 45 minutes with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 tube (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough (original or flaky)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup water
  • Optional: ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and core the apples, leaving them whole. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Open the biscuit dough tube and separate the biscuits. If large, cut each in half. Press into flat circles about 4 inches across.
  5. Place an apple in the center of a biscuit circle. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apple.
  6. Wrap the dough around the apple, pinching the seams tightly at the bottom to seal.
  7. Place dumplings seam-side down in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spacing them evenly apart.
  8. Melt the butter and pour it evenly over the dumplings.
  9. Pour the water into the bottom of the dish around the dumplings (do not pour over them).
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until dumplings are golden brown and apples are tender.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes to allow the syrup to thicken.
  12. Serve warm, drizzled with the pan syrup.

Notes

Keep biscuit dough cold until wrapping to prevent tearing. Ensure seams are pinched tightly to prevent leaking. The water creates steam for a pillowy texture. For a glossier syrup, swirl in a tablespoon of cold butter at the end. Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
