Description
A rich, silky homemade espresso martini that tastes like a bar drink but costs less than $2 to make. This easy cocktail requires only five minutes and basic ingredients like vodka, Kahlua, espresso, and heavy cream.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Vodka (mid-shelf plain vodka)
- 1 oz Kahlua (coffee liqueur)
- 2 oz Espresso or strong coffee (freshly brewed or cold brew concentrate)
- 0.5 oz Heavy cream
- 0.5 oz Simple syrup (optional, to taste)
- 3 Coffee beans (for garnish)
- Ice (lots of it)
Instructions
- Chill coupe or martini glasses in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.
- Brew espresso or strong coffee. Let it cool for about 30 seconds so it is hot but not scalding.
- Fill a cocktail shaker or Mason jar with ice.
- Add vodka, Kahlua, espresso, heavy cream, and simple syrup (if using) to the shaker.
- Seal the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels cold and a foam layer forms.
- Remove ice from the chilled glasses.
- Strain the cocktail into the glasses, allowing the foam to rise naturally.
- Garnish with three coffee beans on top of the foam.
Notes
Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to create a proper emulsion and foam. If using fresh espresso, let it cool slightly before shaking to prevent melting the ice too quickly. For parties, pre-mix vodka, Kahlua, and espresso, but add cream fresh when serving to prevent separation. Coffee beans should be roasted, not raw, to ensure they float.
