Description
A forgiving, set-it-and-forget-it slow cooker recipe that blends sweet honey, smoky BBQ sauce, and a global twist of chili garlic sauce to create tender, sticky meatballs perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 24 oz frozen meatballs (beef or turkey)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 cup thick barbecue sauce
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp cold water
Instructions
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together honey, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, and apple cider vinegar until smooth.
- Pour the sauce into the bottom of a 3-4 quart slow cooker.
- Add frozen meatballs directly on top of the sauce. Do not thaw them. Gently toss to coat as many meatballs as possible.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours until meatballs are tender.
- In a small cup, mix cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry.
- Pour the slurry into the slow cooker and stir gently to distribute.
- Cover and cook on HIGH for an additional 30-60 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Turn the slow cooker to WARM and serve with a slotted spoon.
Notes
Use thick, tomato-based BBQ sauce to avoid a watery result. Do not skip the cornstarch slurry if you want a sticky glaze. Frozen meatballs can be used directly without thawing. For a spicy version, add extra chili garlic sauce or sriracha. For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce and ensure BBQ sauce is GF.
