Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Cobbler

  • Author: Lara
  • Total Time: 4 hours
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A cozy, easy-to-make fall dessert that uses a slow cooker to tenderize apples and create a crisp, caramel-drizzled topping without heating up the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 67 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or similar firm varieties), peeled, cored, and sliced into ½-inch wedges
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1215 oz jar caramel sauce
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples into ½-inch wedges. Toss them in a large bowl with lemon juice, 2 tablespoons melted butter, ½ cup white sugar, ½ cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon nutmeg until coated.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into a 4-6 quart slow cooker and spread it out evenly.
  3. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the apples and spread it slightly, leaving some pockets.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 cup white sugar, ½ cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  5. Add ¼ cup milk and ½ cup melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until a thick, crumbly dough forms (do not overmix).
  6. Dollop the topping mixture over the apples in clumps. Sprinkle the remaining caramel sauce over the top.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours, until apples are tender and topping is golden.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Do not cook on HIGH as the bottom may burn and the top will be soggy. Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith to prevent mushiness. The topping should be lumpy, not a smooth batter. Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 4 days. This recipe does not freeze well.
