Description
A cozy, simple winter drink made with fresh apple cider, apples, and warm spices. Ready in under 20 minutes, this family-friendly punch is customizable and perfect for chilly evenings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 gallon (3.8 liters) fresh-pressed apple cider
- 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Gala), sliced with skin on
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 2–4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 whole cinnamon sticks
- 6–8 whole cloves
- Optional: 1 star anise pod, 1-inch piece fresh ginger (sliced), 2 oranges (sliced), brandy or rum
Instructions
- Slice apples and oranges. Remove apple cores but leave skins on. Measure sugar and cloves.
- Pour apple cider and water into a large pot. Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer (do not boil).
- Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, sliced apples, and orange slices to the simmering cider. Stir gently.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes to allow flavors to infuse. Stir occasionally.
- Taste the cider and add granulated sugar gradually, stirring until dissolved. Adjust to preference.
- Ladle into mugs. Serve immediately with optional garnishes like fresh cinnamon sticks or orange slices.
Notes
Do not boil the cider as it can make the flavor taste cooked. Use whole spices for better infusion and easier removal. Taste as you go to adjust sweetness and spice levels. Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. Does not freeze well due to fruit texture changes.
